Phentermine

Phentermine is a medication prescribed for appetite control for overweight, obese and morbidly obese people. The mechanisms of action are the following: It stimulates your hypothalamus which a gland that regulates hunger and body temperature. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter responsible for focus, memory and learning. Stress hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline are also increased in the body and this results in increased mental alertness. This medication used short term with diet and exercise to boost start your weight loss and start forming long term successful habits and behavior change. Losing weight and keeping it off may reduce the many health risks that come with being obese, such as high cholesterol, hypertension, stroke, heart attacks and Type 2 diabetes. Phentermine tolerance varies among patients, but many individuals have had high levels of success using this product.

Bontril

Bontril also known as Phendimetrazine, is also an appetite suppressant but milder than Phentermine. It can be used on patients who have pre-hypertension or sensitive to stimulants. Patients who have a more complex medical history may still qualify for Bontril which comes in 35 mg immediate release tabs. 

Bontril will help patients lose weight when used in junction with a monitored reduced calorie diet, exercise and behavior change program. It is used for people who have not been able to lose enough weight with diet and exercise alone and need weight loss aid to give them added support for successful long term weight loss.

Most individuals who take this medicine experience decreased appetite and an increase of energy, or metabolic rates. This pill is taken three times a day, 1 hour before meals and will blunt a patient’s appetite before eating.

Tenuate

Tenuate also known as Diethylpropion, is an appetite suppressant that is better tolerated than Phentermine with fewer reported side effects. We can use this medication on patients who need stronger appetite control than Bontril but not as strong as Phentermine. Because of the fewer reported side effects and it’s short-term nature, we also use this on patients who have pre-hypertension or sensitive to stimulants. Patients who have a more complex medical history may still qualify for Tenuate which comes in 25 mg immediate release tabs.

Semaglutide is a GLP-1 (Glucagon Like peptide) which is part of the newer generation weight loss drugs that slow down gut motility and lowers blood sugar. Now that it takes longer for you to digest food, you feel full longer. Our patients describe themselves as not hungry for the majority of the week. Since it slows down digestion, effects are mainly gastrointestinal such as constipation and nausea.
